This will be a workshop for those involved in social movements of any kind. The purpose of the workshop will be to analyze the "learning" or "educational" dimensions of the movements. Social Movements, it is argued, have more transformative power as sites of learning (both formal and informal)than do all the school systems in the world. Social movements are privileged and intense sites of learning for those who are part of the movements (both through formal educational processes inside the movements as well as informal learning-by-doing as a result of the work of the movements). Social Movements also have a "magic" quality as they have the power to create learning in the society even for people who are not part of the movements directly. By being more aware of the importance of the learning dimensions of our movements, we can greatly increase the pace of change and the number of persons involved.
