In order to build democracy from below, there need to be popular education conducted by the social movements themselves. But how can a truly democratic, self organized and participative popular education be realized? We will put special focus on the concept of the study circle. How can this be used by social movements and community based groups around the globe? How can it be applied in different cultural contexts? Examples from Northern Europé, South America and Southern Africa.
