The main objectives of the conference are: Discuss and analyse the state of land rights, particularly of women, access to common pool resources, and land and agrarian reform programmes particularly in Africa. This includes historical perspectives as well as examining current pressures and forces from economic globalisation, trade regimes, the private sector, governance mechanisms and the geopolitical international context. Learn about the different strategies used by land rights activists to resist the loss of lands and other crucial natural resources (e.g., water and forests). Network in order to promote progressive, people-centred and human rights and food sovereignty based land and agrarian reform approaches in Africa and internationally. Discuss the necessity of fighting together for the removal of the most important constraints for food sovereignty policies and for the enforcement of the right to food, particularly, the increasing power of food related transnatioanls. This conference is also co-hosted by ActionAid.
