The World Social Forum is here at last.
I felt proud to see the world converge on Nairobi’s Uhuru Park last Saturday. Unity was expressed on the faces of the marchers regardless of race, religion and abode.
The delegates will be meeting at the Moi Sports Centre Kasarani to discuss social transformation, economic empowerment, access to resources, cultural rights, peace and diversity.
This has lessons for Kenya and Africa. Top on the list is that peace should prevail so that the massacres in Sudan’s Darfur and Somalia can come to an end.
It was disconcerting that no Government representatives were at Uhuru Park to acknowledge the delegates. But that the forum came to Nairobi is an indication of confidence.
